Beyond 50 Shades of Gray
Did you ever go shopping to find sheets or towels in your favorite colors and discover they don’t exist? At the moment there are LOTS of gray items, as gray is really hot right now. But try finding sage green or plum bedding or decorative pillows in a retail store. It’s practically impossible!
Since Emery & Associates draws from trade-only sources, we were able to provide this client’s favorite colors by wrapping her apple-green antique bed and nightstands, along with the Louis XV fauteuil, in an envelope of pale violet. To keep the scheme from being too sweet, we used a crisp embroidered trellis patterned fabric in plum and ivory for the drapery and custom coverlet. 
Now her master bedroom and bath reflect the homeowner’s personal taste. Even her furry best friend is happy!

Absolutely beautiful job of playing off the vintage apple green bed and dresser with your serene bedding, vintage lace pillow cases, accessories, wall coloring (gorgeous), not to mention the dog to match the Louis XV fauteuil! Magnifique, comme toujours! It was a joy to photograph the transformation.
I saw some of this when the project was partly done, but it’s even more wonderful now that all the fabric is in place. And it feels very French, even though I don’t recall any violette rooms in France. The color goes wonderfully with the green antique furniture. The more modern fabrics hold it together, and add more excitement to the whole room. Delightful! As always!
Lovely, Kathia. It’s an inspired combination. The chair is fantastic. And I love the fabrics. Was this a new home, or only new to the owner? As you say, grey is so in now, and there is so much worshipping of modern. BTW, see The Danish Girl for sumptuous fabrics and colors.
Thank you, Dinah. This was new construction, so my job was to specify all interior doors, crown & base molding, electrical and plumbing fixtures, cabinet design and hardware, and all paint colors throughout. I began by determining the color palette, as well as providing reupholstery and drapery fabrics based on the client’s preferences. The antique chairs were already their fabrics, so what I did was integrate them with paint, drapery & coverlet fabric, and accessories.
I really like the violet. It’s a good soft bedroomy color. Also the iridescent satin in the chair seems to pick it up. The violet works surprisingly well with the green in the antique pieces and gives the room a certain Versailles touch. I could not imagine grey with this style of furniture, maybe there are instances?
